Ok, so this might get confusing. The last computer I had had Itunes downloaded onto it, but that computer died. When I get a new computer does itunes keep track of downloads purchased through itunes by your account information? Or are all those songs long gone? I know this question proabably sounds dumb but I'm new at this. Also, I have an Ipod....if anyone has some good good advise I'm all ears. Thanks.

iTunes does not keep track of the songs you purchased. So, just don't allow iTunes on the new computer to synch to the new iPod. Upload the songs on your iPod using EphPod, http://www.ephpod.com/ to your iTunes library (Windows XP). Once that is done, you will have to authorize that computer to play any songs that you purchased from the iTunes Music store.

Alternatively, you can contact Apple Support and tell them what happened, in SOME cases they will allow you to re-download the songs that you purchased at no cost. My guess is that all the songs are still on your iPod, just do what I said above and all should be well.

I had a similar situation arise. I had two computers- one at home and one at work. I uploaded the songs onto my IPOD and home and hoped to be able to use the work computer to also manage the account. I couldn't. When I signed in to the account none of the songs I'd purchased previously were available. They get authorized for use on a particular computer and can not be transferred to another computer- they can be added to 5 devices like IPODS though. So I couldn't have material on my IPOD from different computers. I emailed ITUNES about this and was told that this was how they worked. Also, once purchased and downloaded songs can't be re-downloaded. When your computer crashed they went too.

Sorry to tell you but all the songs that you purchsed and didnt burn to a cd are long gone, You will have to buy them again, itunes only keeps track of the songs you buy but dont download.Once you plug your ipod to your new cmputer and if that computer has itunes but doesnt have any songs your ipod will erase because it will update with the new itunes information.Itunes tells you to back up all the songs that you buy into a cd for this reason.I had this happend to me a while back fortunately I didnt loose a lot of musis files. Hope this helps.

i think that all the songs you buy, will still be on your ipod as long as you download itunes onto the computer, and use the same name and password it will keep track...but all the songs that you downloaded from a CD will be lost and you will have to redownload those and then update your ipod..hope that helps

I know of someone who just purchased an Ipod. When we looked into how much it would cost per tune to download I was SHOCKED to say the least. To fill it up would have cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Thank GOD I found www.limewire.com Any song you can think of for free
