Whats the point of driving a bus around as your personal vehicle? And with gas prices the way they are *phews*

People complain about kids, groceries, etc, etc.... but what did people do before they had huge suv's? What about people in asian countries who use strictly public transport and have 4+ kids?

They're compensating for something...

Some people really feel it's a safety issue, whether they are in fact right or wrong. One person I know had a 4 door sedan rammed from behind and got loads of spinal/back injuries. After that, she got a SUV and at least psychologically, is safer. The trauma of the accident was too much and she decided she needed a "heavy weight" to keep her safe in case she got into an accident again.

Another reason might just be that most people think of having bigger cars as living up the yuppie lifestyle in style.

Ive seen people who drive those big SUV's just because they feel bigger. But I know a lady that almost go killed in this Geo Prism so she wont ever buy anything small. She currently has a Excursion for her and her husband. Other than that I don't see any other reasons for people to have those big huge SUV's with only two people in the family.

Have you seen the hummer commercials, they are trying to sell to compensate for the lack of inner strength a person may have.
Or the VW commercials where all the people in the fancy sports cars are hollering out the window with mega phones. "My daddy didn't luv me enough" or "I'm compensating for something" "It makes me feel more pretty" Just cracks me up when I see it.

Everyone wants to be King-ding-a-ling, and they think their SUV makes them that.

Ok...I'm rolling my eyes..."I take mine to the woods, the beach, etc. other places you can't take a car" Please! Who says? I drive my car to all those places. And why the "Huge" suv...why not one of the smaller all terrain types of vehicles or a small suv.
Or why not buy a cheap older model and leave it at home during the week, instead of commuting in the gas guzzler. Besides, unless your suv has got 4WD its not going to be anymore helpful at getting you out of a bad situation than a car. Hell 4 people can push a small car out of, say a ditch or large rutt, with a big ole 2wd suv, you'll have to call a tow truck.

People like status symbols to show off. This is one of the most ridiculous. The faddish style of driving an SUV has pushed the demand and therefore prices up on not only Gas, but insurance.

For the most part its about keeping up with the Jones. They think it give them status. There are a few people who actually need a big vehicles to carry heavy materials and transport football or hockey playing kids. Personaly I prefer small cars.

Big cars and SUVs are part of the bugger your neighbor mentality.
People in big cars are safer because if they crash into you they will crush YOU. The bumpers of SUVs are supposed to be at the same level as the bumpers of cars but instead their bumpers are at windshield level. They are deadly. This is a problem in auto design that only can be fixed by the manufacturers with government insistence.

Its called "feelin superior" or maybe they need to tow a boat or they like driving in dirt. SUVs are dangerous. My wife saw one rollover while doing a high speed turn and frankly I feel good..."Serves them right"...Bigger SUVs are killers... SUV can run you over then crush you then you get stuck underneath and dragged for miles. The driver being so high and mighty probably didnt even notice he hit you.

That is a good question. I guess the same reason a family of 2 or 3 lives in a 3,000+ square foot house. Vanity, status, and the false belief that bigger is always better.

I run a company in Houston.
There are big trucks on the freeway and I am afraid of driving a small car for safety reasons.
I have already been hit once (not my fault) and walk with a limp.
The lady in the small car that hit me snapped both ankles.

Believe me, I know how much gas cost.
