It is possible to reach a reasonable comprimise to many of our common problems rather then stubornly reject any and all solutions in favor of maintaining a course of action that achieves no positive benefit .
RATHER then change, it seems we would rather hold on to methods and ideas that often do little to enhance our lifes, and ,still allow for individual freedom of choice .

How does one compromise on a binary situation?

Iraq, in or out.
Abortion, yes or no.
Electricity from nuclear power, yes or no.

When you can answer somewhere in the middle, then compromise is possible, but in some circumstances not likely.

The biggest part of the problem is that we disagree on what the right thing is, or if we agree on that, how to get there.

You have a point. This nation was built on compromise - anyone who doesn't understand that should look up Henry Clay, the "Great Compromiser".

It's all part of growth, isn't it? I learned when I was 28 to be able to agree to disagree. When I was younger, though, if I disagreed with someone, I felt like I needed to hate them or avoid them altogether.

Now, I love differences. It's what colors the world!

It's sad that most people cannot get to the point where they can resolve without getting ugly.

It's kind of sad when you think about it. Issues and views use to be discussed intelligently (shades of gray). Ideas exchanged. Now everyone argues and spews hatred, as though everything is only black or white.

Unfortunately, the "right thing" is different for everyone. We all think we're doing the right thing. That's why politics are so heated, because no one wants to back down and let the other side do what they think is the "right thing".
