It could be a very good thing. He's familiar with you and your family. You probably feel comfortable with him. I think these kinds of relationships stand a better chance of working than others.
Just make sure that if you two go out, that it doesn't take your brother by surprise.

i would say just ask your brother if hes a good guy cause its his best friend if your bros really protective of you than just dont bother that is very dangerous territory !
