They should treat us as humans, and not as a number.

I have had a brilliant doctor who always had a moment to talk generally, looked at me in the face and treated me, if not like a friend, certainly like a human-being.

And I have had an appalling one who never looked at me in the face, never spoke to me apart from issuing barked instructions to get on the couch, roll my sleeve up, etc, and even when examining me on the couch, had pictures of his favourite cars on the wall to look at above the couch rather than have any human contact with his patient.

So I am all for if you like, professional friendliness. It makes such a difference when you have a doctor who treats you in that way.

Yes, I do. My doctor better treat me in a friendly manner, or I'll be getting another doctor. I've had my doctor for 30 years now, and I wont have any other doctor. I've tried others over the years and not one of the others were as good as the one I'm sticking with.

yes of course, we are the reason they have a job, nothing less than a very friendly visit should be accepted. Not only should the doctors be friendly but the office workers should also be required to treat all patients in a very courteous manor.

Of course they should be friendly! If your doctor doesn't treat you well or treats you in a way you are uncomfortable with you need to find a new one. Good luck!

Anyone in a position with public contact should practice
good customer service. With Doctors you are the customer.
In either case, I think everyone should try to be friendly when at all possible

Most definitely they should!!! After all, you are their bread and butter. Usually, the more arrogant the Physician is regarding his ability, the worse his demeanor is. Unfortunately, some of the best surgeons that I have worked with have a terrible bedside manner. Of course, if I or a family member had to go under the knife (or scalpel, for that matter), that is usually the surgeon I would choose. The main reason is: I want the best surgeon possible saving my life. I would generally say from observation, this particular type of surgeon has spent so many years honing his skill, that for some reason he or she lacks the skill of manners.

Of course, but reality steps in...

Heart surgeons are a really peculiar lot. Bitchy, edgy, demanding and impatient. Probably of the 20 I've worked with ONE of them is 100% nice all of the time. Our health care system ALLOWS THIS.

I personally had an ENT MD who was a big, fat, obnoxious bastard that was referred by my dentist. But he was damned thorough and on top of everything. I'd use him again.

They're kind of like the "Soup Nazi." They've got a great product, but you've got to put up with their attitudes in order to get it.

But...I'll never use an ****** as my primary doctor. They won't get my business and I'll refer other patients away from them.

yes, i do. bedside manner goes a long way. the fact of the matter is, as a layperson, i have not spent a looooooong time and a lot of money on med school, so i hate when doctors treat me like i'm stupid for not fully understanding them. it doesn't help either if they have a snide atttitude. who likes going to the doctor anyway? no one goes for fun, so it doesn't help anyone to feel as though their doctor is condescending.

what do u mean by friendly? in our society now where to me sexual harassment is called if u look at someone in a way as interpreted by them as inappropiate, being friendly is not recommended, being polite and professional would be a safer way 2 go!!!
