Erin Brokovich - True Story
Event Horizon - Sci fi Horror
The Others or any M Night Shayamalan (don't think thats spelt correctly)
O.K. They're all a bit old but really good examples of the movies you like. For something a bit different why not try Fight Club -excellent or La Haine - french but absolute class!
Happy Viewing

I'd say Pirates of the Caribbean; The Black Pearl
Every time I watch it, Johnny Depp makes me laugh my pants off,
but the storyline always keeps me interested in watching the rest of the film.
If you ha vent seen the second Pirates of the Caribbean, I'd also recommend
watching that, although i don't think its as good as the first, i still think its a
good film to watch.
And watch out for the Release of the Third and Final Pirates of the Caribbean
coming out in the summer of 2007
Hope you have fun what ever you watch

Take it from someone who has a good taste in movies -
The Deer Hunter - Robert De Niro
Life is Beautiful - (Subtitled movie about how an Italian man helps his little boy survive a Nazi concentration camp)
Withnail and I - (Richard E Grant, highly entertaining)
It's a Wonderful Life (Black & White James Stewart tearjerker)
The Bone Collector (Denzel Washington)
You can't go wrong with any of these!

'The Shining', based on a Stephen King book (which I think was based on a true story), and it's horror and spooky, and haunted.

I know that they are not all that new but if you have not seen The Lake House (inspiring) or Pirates of The Caribbean yet then you should.
Older movies...then I would say Requiem For A Dream...it is one of the most powerful movies I have seen to date. Try watching the South-African-made- Academy-Award-winning Tsotsi
