Whenever someone has a new haircut, or puts a picture up on myspace, etc...everyone always comments that its 'cute'....even though its not that cute....do people just say something is 'cute' so they have something nice to say, whereas its not really cute to them?

yes. they don't want to hurt your feelings and say they don't like the hair cut or the color of your hair or whatever. they would just rather say that's cute. it cuts down on a lot of arguments

People tend to do that, which isn't that bad. I mean, would you rather hear something than nothing because if you ask people: "how is my haircut?" They say nothing and just stare at you, that would be even more uncomfortable. Everybody does that. Though, 'cute' could mean many things. It could mean 'innocent' or 'naive' and because it is being used so much, 'cute' could mean 'ok' or 'all right'.

depends on the person. I do sometimes, but not all of the time, that way, you will never really know what is a lie, so your feelings are less likely to be hurt. I will tell you the truth though if it is really important like a job interview or a first date.

"It can never be right to lie! Of course, each of us deals with the "degree of truth" we employ to placate those who ask for our opinions. Since, most of the time, it is friends, relatives or close acquaintances that ask for opinions from me ... now it's you ... most often I will not answer with any words, but, nod my head, say nothing or change the subject. There are adequate defences from ayone trying to tie you down in a lie. I just don't lie ... to be nice or otherwise. My motto is "say truth or do no harm" in these cases."

Not me...not in my life and not on the Internet, which makes me incredibly popular. LOL I am a bit kinder in real life, but my friends and family can trust one thing always. I don't lie, sugar coat the truth a little. Make a suggestion, but I will not lie. Just can't abide it.

I'm so glad i don't do that.
If I don't like something, I make sure people know. I only comment like that if I genuinely like something, but I never use the word cute

sometimes, people often tweak the truth a bit to avoid confrontation, women do it to avoid hurting someones feelings, and men tend to do it to avoid any drama or an argument ( you know him being in the dog house).
