Why? People like what they like, and have their reasons to do so. No one can ever berate you for liking something, as long as it's not harmful to others - and, as far as I know, Sarah MacLachlan has a beautiful voice - though I do not like her musics much. So, to answer your question, who cares what other people think? You shouldn't be embarrassed.

Music is music, and Sarah Maclachlan is a talented musician. Girls like rap and metal rock bands sometimes (I do)...why shouldn't you like her style? I personally don't think it's a big deal, and those who do are just immature...

A Guy nor a Girl should never be embarrassed by the music they like.
If others treat you badly because of it.
Ignore it.
They must not know what true music is.
