In test matches a team can impose follow on to another team if they are 200 runs or more behind.

In first class cricket it depends on the number of playing days as under:
for a 5 day match -- 200 or more
for a 4 day match -- 150 or more
for a 3 day match -- 100 or more

Generally to impose follow-on the team batting first should hav atleast a 200run lead than the opposition. (if they hav scored more than 200) or else it is 100 run if the team batting first scores less than 200.

In first class cricket matches it differs depending on the number of days played ex:
In a 5 day match its 200 difference as said above.
In a 4 day match its 150 ,, ,, ,,
In a 3 day match its 100 ,, ,, ,,

Follow-on: When a team trails by 200 runs or more in international test match, the team batting 2nd bats again instead of the team batting 1st.

Leads to: The match can go a draw. Or else the team who gets d follow-on looses by an innings & runs (for more e-mail me at acggoa_mapusa@yahoo.co.in)

Optional: The team which bats 1st and team that bats 2nd and trails by 200+ runs, it is on the team that has the lead to either impose the follow-on or not.

If the team batting first has scored more than 200 then the difference is 199 runs.
If the team batting first has scored less than 200 then the difference is 99 runs.
Follow on cannot be imposed if the team batting first has scored less than 100.

Just subtract 200 from the opponent's score. If the team doesn't score more than the opponent's score subtracted by 200, the opponent may tell that team to bat again.

if a team leads by 200 runs than the team batting second in the first team then the team batted second have to bat it's second innings. but if the captain of the team batted first wish to bat again, then he can bat his second innings without giving follow on.
