Your period runs in a cycle. Most women generally have around a 28 day cycle. Day one is the first day of your period. Generally you will have a "burst" of estrogen from your ovaries around days 5-10 which send a message to your pituitary gland. The pituitary gland sends a message back to your ovaries to release an egg (ovum) which usually occurs around day 14 or 15. Once the egg is released, it is viable (or able to be fertilized) for 24 hours. If it is not fertilized, it will disolve. your body will wait a approximate 10-14 days to see if a fetus will implant. If it doesn't you will get your period.

It is important to remember that a man's sperm can live up to about 5 days and be waiting around in your body for you to ovulate and release an egg. Also, sometimes a period isn't really a period, but breakthrough bleeding caused by stress or hormone fluctuations (caused by diet and exercise).

Basically, reproduction is not an exact science. There are to many things that can change your cycle. It is always best to use a reliable form of birth control if you do not want to get pregnant.

I hope this helped you.

You can get pregnant at anytime if you are having sex. A women gets pregnant because she releases an egg (ovulation) once a month. If that egg is not fertilized by a sperm cell then it degrades and is released from the body with your period. Yes it is possible to get pregnant on your period but it's more likely that you will get pregnant when not on your period. Most women ovulate 14 days after the start of their period which means there are still 14 more days before your next period and your egg will be degraded by then if not fertilized. However some women have irregular periods and may ovulate around the time their period comes. In this case sperm can live inside a female for up to 5 days and thus a woman can get pregnant. Hope this helps.

Most women ovulate 12-16 days before their periods and within individual women, this rarely fluctuates by more than a day or so. Sperm can live in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days if fertile conditions are present, as they are in the days immediately preceding ovulation. So, there is a window of time that combines the life span of the sperm and the life span of the egg (12-24 hours) when a woman is fertile. Depending on the length of the individual woman's cycle, this may be right in the middle between periods, or if she has very short cycles her fertile window could extend back into her period.

If you really want an in-depth understanding of how your body, your cycles and the hormonal feedback system that regulates it works, I strongly recommend reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. If you want someone to explain it to you "straight out" you'll get that in this book; I was amazed at how much I didn't know.

You can get preg during your period. It's because it takes a few days for the sperm to travel up into your body. MOST women when they have thier periods will have the egg released, and if its not fertilized, then menstration begins. But from what I understand there's some people that have it that the egg gets released at a different time, or you may release more than one egg at a time, so then this raises the possiblity of the sperm meeting the egg at a different time, and raises the chance of getting preg even during your period. Again you can get preg before and after your period. Use protection no matter what time of the month you're in your cycle!!

In order to become pregnant, one of your ova should be fertilised by a sperm.
In the normal physiological menstrual cycle, a woman ovulates roughly mid-cycle. The day of ovulation is variable but it roughly falls within the 10th-18th day of the menstrual cycle. After ovulation menstruation occurs on the 14th day. This is more or less constant. Sperms can remain viable in the female genital tract for about 3 days. Therefore the period in which a woman can get pregnant in a normal cycle is potentially from the 5th to the 21st day of the cycle. It is rare for pregnancy to occur at the extremes of the cycle but it is possible!
During your period, you cannot get pregnant, but can do so just after one.
If you are not planning a pregnancy it's wise to practise protected sex.
Hope this answers your question.

Honestly Im not positive, but I think you can get pregnant 2 weeks before your period because the egg is on its way down. You cant during because the egg is already out. And you cant 2 weeks after because the egg isnt there yet. Hope this makes sense. Good luck!

You get pregnant before your period. The best time to have sex without pregnancy is RIGHT after your period.
