Seriously, I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't know why some people make a big deal out of it!

Ok, to me, and this is just the way I see it, there is nothing wrong with the look or style. Absolutely nothing wrong. You should wear whatever you want to wear. Whoever doesn't like it can lick your boots.
Emo music? Punk music? It has its good and its sucky, just like every type of genre.
Now the whole "emo" attitude gets on my nerves. Seriously. All these suburban kids drowning in a glass of water. Give me a break. They haven't even started living yet and are complaining and feeling so much "pain" and "emotion" over every little thing. It's a bunch of blah blah blah that translates to crap. Tantrums, and more tantrums. "Nobody loves me! Everybody hates! I'm gonna eat a worm!" Most of them don't even know what real strife, pain and suffering is.
My way of seeing it is that if you are going to be a rebel then be a strong rebel, not a wimpy one.
I have been different from the crowd all my life, but I am true to myself, not a follower of a fad. Define yourself. Like a certain look but follow your own philosophy of life. Do not let a fad dictate who you are. Be the "oddball" (I always am), but be your own definition of an "oddball". I guess I believe that everyone should be unique and not follow a herd.
Again my personal opinion.

Absolutely nothing. I am a child of the 80's. I was considered part of the punk crowd in 7th-9th grades. I evolved into "Terrence Trent D'Arby" by 10th and just completely didn't care by my senior year. The funny thing is, most people how are "punk" or "emo" turn into corporate slaves later in life. The jocks and preps will turn into drunken fools that wear patchouli in college. Be true to yourself and you'll be happy. May not seem like it now, but you'll be happier down the road.

First of all, what the hell is EMO!? I looked it up like a thousand times and I still don't get it.
I know a girl who gets beat up everyday by people who say they're emo and punk. Well, I don't think you'd beat anybody up, but some people think that being emo is the coolest thing in the world and people who are not emo should die. I don't think there's anything wrong with being emo, but then again, don't be emo because your friends tell you to be, and don't tell your friends to be emo just cause you are. Just like you shouldn't pressure your friends to do drugs. And for one thing, it brainwashes you. Just like when you listen to too much rap, you decide that you want a pistol and you that you wanna do drugs just like all the rappers. But hip hop is a culture. Drugs, no drugs, pistols, no pistols, it's still a culture. nothing wrong with it. what's wrong is that people start doing drugs just cause their favorite rapper does drugs.
Nothing's bad and nothing's wrong, as long as you know who you are and you know what you're doing.

Nothing, just don't be a follower. Don't be EMO or punk because your favorite band or friends are. Be what you want. Realize that the word punk today has a completely different meaning than it did back in the 70's and late 60's. The ideology behind it has changed.

I have a vague notion of what 'punk' is, but what's emo?
(I'm always the last to know.)
P.S. Thanks for answering. Emotional, huh?
Well, as far as "what's WRONG with being emo and punk?" all I can say is, "Isn't that the point of having all these cliques? People put themselves into pre-formed boxes, and then criticize all the others who put themselves (or were put by others) into different pre-formed boxes. Isn't that the time-honored system for expressing one's individuality?"
Whoops! Sorry. Not quite in-line with the guidelines, but, if you choose one of the categories to put yourself in, then, it's not WHICH category you put yourself in that's the problem, but, rather the whole idea that each person has to be in one, and that everyone disses (sp?) those in all the others. People are not that simple, and the idea that there are these few, homogeneous, exclusive, and exhaustive categories into each of us must fit seems wrong to me.
(I have no idea what category I was in back then -- if anyone noticed me at all, that is -- "booky geeky loner" I guess. I was blissfully unaware.)
PPS: It's a major flaw in the YA answers system that the details added later aren't visible while one is answering. I see you hang out with those from other groups, and they with you.
THAT's the problem. According to the rules of the system, one is supposed to hang out only with one's own kind. That's why others object to you and your friends accepting each other, and choosing each other as individuals.
Don't sweat it. This ancient being (late forties), for one, applauds you all.
When you're out of high school (assuming that's where you are now) that whole system largely drops away. Although a few people think in terms like these all their lives, most grow out of it.
Don't cave.

Well, the guys look gay for one thing, and it makes you seem like a sensitive little wuss who cries about everything.
Plus it's just the latest "anti-fad" everyone has left behind their nu-metal gear so they can be cool emo kids. I find very little sincerity in it.

Well being like someone who already has an image just transfers that image onto you, along with the stereotypes of how they act and should be treated.
