Do you consider Oxford or Cambride to be the better university?

I favour Cambridge as it has by far the longest list of Nobel prize winners and famous scientists. Although Oxford has a strong reputation for the arts, Cambridge can boast a lot of famous arts graduates too, including those who were in the Footlights and both universities are strong on philosophy. There also seems to be less town-gown rivalry at Cambridge. I haven't studied at either university by the way. I just wanted to dispel this myth some people outside of the UK have that Oxford is necessarily better, just because it features in a lot of films. I expect a lot of strong agreement/disagreement.

As you say it depends on the discipline. Oxon for BA Cantab for BSc is a rule of thumb. Cambridge was established after some unruly students were chased from Oxford by the locals and today Oxford has the remains of heavy industry and a workforce that is less tolerant of the privileged students.

I considered both for graduate school. I felt that Cambridge was stronger in the sciences while Oxford in the arts.

You can't park in Oxford so I'd choose Cambridge ;o)

i have to say if i was cleverer enough to go to either i would choose cambridge as oxford seems to be suck in the 1800's

its a load of bull. oxford or cambridge, what todge. you either brainy or not. you either got it or you aint, a lot of famous people didnt or needn't go to university to get where they are today,
