What is the fascination with Socom?

My husband and his friends play Socom all the time, many times for hours on end. (he was my fiance then, he's only played once in the 2 weeks we've been married). Tell me, what is so cool about this game?

It's an ego thing, makes them feel all "Dude I'm such a freakin stud, I'm soooooo much the man!!!!!"

It is a very addicting game try it once(my wife did and i had to buy another ps2 lol)......and what better way to chill out at home and talk to plp and have fun at the same time.
