Not a thing - my sister home schools her kid and I've known a great number of parents who have opted for home schooling. In today's freakish environment of teachers who don't care and students who kill each other, it's a safe and positive alternative to public education.

Kids tend to be above-average in academics, they've got parents that interact with them EVERY single day, they have more opportunity to pursue outside activities such as sports or the arts, their schedules are more flexible - allowing for things like family vacations in the middle of the traditional school year because the school can come with! The list goes on and on in the PRO column of home schooling.

Except for the aspect of highschool level socialization (and for some areas, even Junior HIGH socialization), Homeschooling is actually a much better way to teach kids.

Especially when the parents are involved in the schooling in a more than usual (public school) way.

Considering that most public schools are or have been a joke for a long time. Homeschooling is a good option or choice.

I'm being homeschooled now! I do have a little against it, I don't get to hang out with my friends much and I get really bored during the day! My mom and dad are in their late 50's so I stay home during the day to help take care of my baby brother(5).
I also don't go to school because my parents think there is way too much bad things going on!

Even if some kids go to school their social skills do not improve, some think this is true, but it isn't for some. I went to public shcool for the last 9 years K-8th and my social skills still suck!

I personally don't have anything against home schooling; but in the American zeitgeist, home schooling has become synonymous with religious zealotry and insular thinking.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it -- it's human nature to make broad generalizations based on very little evidence. When I was a kid, people used to think I was some sort of punk just because I had long hair and wore a black leather jacket. When I started a family, people assumed we were some kind of "Jesus Freaks" because I stayed at home to raise our son. In both cases, nothing could be further from the truth -- and the people worth knowing will pay attention to you enough to see you for who you really are....

Not many people are capable to give their child an adequate education so they can compete in the world. Do you think its just for fun that we require teachers to have formal training to work in schools???? Some public schools are not acceptable, in that case home schooling maybe a better option, but some of the time the child is behind and is lacking social skills when they are home schooled versus their peers of the same age group.

I think people dislike homeschoolers because they are portrayed in the media and television as "social outcasts" and people who arn't with the "times" this of course simply is not true. It is a fact that alot of homeschoolers are more intellegent than children & teenagers who go to public schools. But than again the age of intellegence is over, you can simply see that just by going to a public school. There is absolutely, without a doubt almost no learning going on there and the learning that is there is filled with political correctness and other gambits laid down by government. The only way to learn is to learn on your own and with certain types of homeschooling this is highly possible.

Public school children and teenagers tend to pick on homeschoolers for the sole reason they are different from them. People are cruel.

Oh and for people who critisize my lack of social skills. It's not because I'm homeschooled. It's because I hate people.

But that's just my opinion.

Home schooled kids are not less social if it's done right! In fact, they are probably better socially adjusted because they have the one on one contact with an adult, and are not thrown into social competition too soon. There are good Home School groups to help with homework, team sports and to take field trips with! I think it's great, and will be homeschooling my kids!

Nothing. I know many home schooled kids and they're incredibly well-adjusted. I've never tested their knowledge, but I know they tend to score better on college entrance exams than non-homeschooled kids. That said, I'm sure some parents don't do as well as others (just like any school).

I have nothing against homeschoolers. However, I believe that most of what you learn in school has very little to do with what happens in the classroom. It's mostly about learning to deal with people who simply aren't like you.

Homeschoolers never have to do that and are ill prepared to deal with it when they venture out into a large diverse world.

I don't have anything against people who home school. I just hope the children don't eventually resent their parents for making the decision to home school their children and not expose them to other educational opportunities, like learning how to interact with other children and adults. Because when they get out into the real world, they are going to need to know how to deal with different people and personalities. And if they can't, chances are they are going to have a tough time.
