And any long term servers feel like people are now letting their kids act worse in restaurants, more than they used too?

All I know is, when I eat in a restaurant, I expect a certain level of service. There are 2 servers that totally annoy me: 1) the server just there to get tips and doesn't care about service and 2) the server that gives poor service then bad-mouths the customer for leaving little or no tip.

Addition: Sorry, couldn't resist: to Davey and Steeviee - stick with your job forever 'cause you guys are dumber than a bag of hammers and wouldn't make it any other way.

No. It's not taking advantage. It's just that instead of people taking responsibility for their kid's actions and nipping it in the bud, they are oohing and ahhing over how smart and independent they are. They also think that their kids have these sophisticated palates at young ages. Mostly no. Just stick them with the sitter if they can behave.

A waiter friend of mine told me that one boy was actually roller skating at his restaurant. The parents were just sitting there like they couldn't see him causing trouble and getting in the way. My friend said it was like they had to babysit while the parents enjoy their meals. So ridiculous.

All depends where you work, clientele, area of town, etc....But I do agree with the misbehaving children, it seems rampant here in Florida, parents are too busy with their own lives to be bothered with raising a child to act properly in public.

of course they are taking advantage... if the water isn't cold enough, that's a 5% deduction, if their dinners came out before they finished their appetizer, there goes another 5%... these people I tell ya...

If dining experiences were customized per order of each customer, they wouldn't call them restaurants...it'd be called "Your Mom's Kitchen"

It's got nothing to do with that. People just don't bother teaching their kids about manners and morals anymore.
