Have you seen the Calvin and Hobbes comic where Calvin says "if I never care about anything, I will never be upset when things go wrong" or something like that. I'm in a situation now where if I care, and do the right thing, I will be upset, and I could possibly upset other people. If I don't care, and don't do anything, I will be happy and all the other people will stay content. This is a hard decision, any ideas?

lol. i love C&H. here's the problem w/ that sentence, which is why Bill watterson probably gave it to Calvin to say....

it's almost impossible Not to care about anything. u Will be upset when things go wrong. because if u have the knowledge that u could've helped or stopped something, then u will never be able to forget about it, much less forgive urself. ignorance is bliss, but what u have right now is not ignorance, u are making a clear Choice to either do somehting "right", or ignore and face the consequences. the question is, how do u know if u don't care, u will be happy? is that really true? u have to weight what doing the right thing means to u, and the situation. for example, i have a friend dealing w/ a lot of problems.. should i tell someone? or should i keep my mouth shut? i'm stuck between a rock and hard place. but if i want to help her, i will never be able to NOT try to do what i can. i can't just stay quiet and let things get worse and worse..... it's not in my nature. eventually u will probably feel bad about urself, and feel like a failure, if u don't do the "right thing" now.... so in that case, u will be upset, and u won't be happy even tho u did choose to "not care". that is why calvin, as a selfish 6 year old, can say that and not think of the consequences. good luck.... i hope u make a good decision.

My take on this is that a "peace at any price" mentality is akin to cowardice. Caring is an unselfish act designed to act in a person's best interests. This person(s) might be temporarily unhappy, but that's life. Sometimes the right thing to do is allow some temporary discomfort with an eye towards the greater good.

if you are talking about yourself, it is better to be happy. If there are other people involved, it is better to care
