I read that phosphoric Acid, which is in pop such as Dr. Pepper, and Coca cola, is a good rust remover. I want to know if it is or not, and if there are any household items that can get rid of rust. Such as, on tools.

Use steel wool on the area, wipe clean with a dry rag and then spray with WD-40.
For large spots of rust use a wire brush attachment on a power drill and scrape the rust off. Then spray with WD-40.
Coke will just gum up your hand tools like shears, but OK with shovels and pitch forks.

Yes. No. Ok, well...... both. Yes. It will remove some rust. Is it the best solution? NO! You can buy many different products marketed specifically to remove rust, CLR is one (I think that stands for Calcium, Lime and Rust), one called No Rust. These are stronger acids better formulated to removing rust. A good rinse is necessary afterwards for any of them, though. And if it is a tool as you mentioned, or some other bare metal, a good light coat of oil or WD-40 will keep the rust from coming back. Also, be care if you use the rust removers on marble or granite, they will etch the stone.

You are right the acid in it removes rust and even cleans off your car battery when and if it gets corroded...The acid in soda does remove a lot of things, but can be a sticky clean-up.

No. They do, however, remove the corrosion from your car's battery terminals. Just pour it on the posts. It really works.
