I'm only about a month into my pregnancy and I am spending most of my time feeling very nauseous and like I want to throw up. I have lots of gas (burps) and it seems never-ending. My appetite is going up and down like crazy, usually depending on how lousy I feel. What I eat or drink doesn't seem to make any difference either. I take walks every day but have to limit my activity level to avoid stirring myself up too much. And why does it hurt so much like weird menstrual pain??? - confused.

The never letting your stomach get empty is good advice for most. Eat lightly but often, and if it turns your stomach try something else. Oddly, saltines made me want to retch, ginger ale was great-though flat sounds unappealing. Baby carrots were good for awhile. Lemons were good too (actually caught myself drinking from on of those little plastic lemons standing in front of the fridge...lol) Drinking plenty of water as well. For some people that is actually hard to do if your not thirsty but try. And if you get up in the middle of the night to go pee grab a light snack say a banana or apple. That may help some of the morning sickness too. Oh graham crackers were good too. waking up on a very empty stomach is probably what makes women so sick.

Oh darlin, get used to the gassiness. It doesn't get any better for some of use. I've become like a baby myself...nothing but a eatin, burpin, pootin', machine.

Eating saltines and drinking ginger ale (which is supposed to be "flat"...no carbonation, leave it open for awhile... by the way), along with tring to have many small meals will usually help. Don't let your stomach get empty. You should be trying to put something in your stomach about every 2 hours.

Take the crackers and flat pop with you to bed too. If you wake during the middle of the night, eat a couple of saltines and a couple of drinks of the flat pop. Wait a couple of minutes before laying back down too so that it goes into your stomach.

Before getting up in the morning, do the saltines and pop again. Wait for it to get down and then get up and do whatever you need to do. For breakfast, fix some toast and add a little jelly to it (no butter..nothing greasy). Eat one or two, whatever you feel you can get down.

In 2 hours or a little less have a little something else. What my doc told me was, if I could think of a food and it didn't make me feel nauseated, then it should be ok to eat it. If you crave something, it's ok to eat it too. Just make sure to eat smaller amounts and more frequently.

There is the peppermint thing too that can really help upset tummy's...even those that are pregnant. Brach's sells these peppermint hard candies called Starlight mints (they have red and white stripes on them) or you can get "real" peppermint sticks in some places too. Peppermint "settles" the stomach so sucking on a hard peppermint in between eating may help out too!

It should go away after your first trimester, but there are some that have it the whole pregnancy..very rare though.

If it gets too bad or you go days where you can't get anything down, make sure to give your doc a call. There are things he can give you to help you out, but there is no need to take it if it's mild and you can get some things down. Never be afraid to give your doc or nurse a call and ask questions. That is what they are there for and what you pay them for! :-)
Good luck!

The weird menstrual pain is totally normal it is the uterus stretching because of hormones to give the baby room because the baby isn't big enough to cause the uterus to grow itself yet. Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot you can do about feeling sick, don't eat big meals lots of small ones and drink a lot of water. There are pills that the doctor can give you, but they don't seem to work for anyone I know.

You will find it all worth it when you feel your baby for the first time inside you! Good luck and congratulations!

Nausea is common. I sipped water with lemon slices in it and that helped me. I also heard ginger tea is good for nausea. Eat regularly, small meals, and plain soda crackers to snack on.

The pain does not seem normal. See your Dr. right away.

sorry to hear that you feel so awful, but it's called morning sickness, though it isn't restricted to just the morning. you need to speak a doctor and get them to explain what is normal and what isn't.
