Write the equation of the line L satisfying the given geometric conditions.
L has y-intercept (0, -3) and is parallel to the line with equation y = 2/3x + 1

Does this make sense? Thank you.

Equations for lines are y=mx+b

y=y coordinate
m=slope
x=x coordinate
b= y intercept

When you want something to be paralell they have the same slope so the equasion that satisfies line "L" will have the slope of 2/3

Now you have to plug the numbers into the equasion to make it work
You have "y, x, and m" already. THis makes the equasion:

-3=0(2/3)

That means the equasion says -3=0. SInce we know that isn't true, you can now use (-3) as your number for "b" since that will make the equasion true.

SO you're equasion is now -3=0(2/3) -3

The equasion is now true since -3=-3

So you final answer is y=2/3x-3 (You don't have to substitute in x and y)

When two lines are parallel, this means they have the same slope. The slope for the line with a given equation is 2/3. Since you're given the y intercept, you can just use the general form: y = mx+b.
m (slope) = 2/3
b (y-intercept) = -3

L's equation should be y = (2/3)x-3

Well you already know the slope y=mx+B m= slope, and the y intercept b in the first equation, then you should be able to figure out an equation.

parallel to y=2/3x+1
therefore slope is 2/3 and passes through (0,-3)
equation is y+3=2/3(x-0)
=>3y+9=2x
=>2x-3y-9=0

equtation of line having slope m and y- intercept c is y=mx+c
so required equaton is y=2/3 x - 3

y=(2/3)x+1
y=(2/3)x-3

so line L=y=(2/3)x-3
