First, realize that many people, both guys and girls, have the same problem! Don't feel awkward, because it isn't so uncommon.
Watch how people who aren't shy handle themselves. See how they talk to people.
Go up to a girl who appears shy and get to know her. Put yourself in situations that are comfortable for you and not too threatening, where there aren't a ton of other people around who are dominating the scene.
Take it slowly. Be interested in what others have to say; develop a good sense of humor. Don't interrupt.
It gets easier with time. Have confidence in yourself.

only way to get over it.
1. build self confidence, you have to like yourself first before anyone can like you.
2. try and go up to random women and chat for a quick min. just do it. even if u are shy, whats wrong with it, its not like you know them.
3. if they diss you, its okay, all men get turned down all the time, just move on.
4. best way to stop being shy, is go up to women and talk to him, no one is good at talking to women at first, but you'll get the hand of it

either man up and just start bumping those gums, she is gonna be cool, or not, or just indifferent, but no one will know until you start to talk...or, find a real ugly girl...one who you feel better about yourself around(because i know its the hot girls you get tongued tied around right??) so find a real paperbagger...and just tlak to her...bump up your confidence and then you move up a lil...but dont get carried away...take babysteps....
and btw, if i get flack off this one...its only because my b.s. humor didn't come through...or i really hit a nerve....

just get over the shyness and start talking to them!!!!! i bet there are some girls out there who are just DYING for you to talk to them already!!!! SO JUST DO IT!!!
