I just got a laptop with this processor. How is the battery life? How is the performance? Will this work for a number of years?

Turion 64 is AMD's (AMD is a competitor to Intel) mobile processor. It has 64bit capabilities. 32bit is the norm at present but things will eventually move to 64bit and your Turion will still be running great when they do.

X2 refers to the fact that it's got a dual core. Meaning it's almost like having 2 processors in one. It helps a lot when you're running more than one application at a time.

Performance will blow you away. AMD always has good performance.

According to HP, assuming you have a 6 cell battery (usually you can upgrade to a 12 cell if you want), you're doing processor intensive tasks (like streaming video/music), using wireless, using the CD/DVD rom, and have your screen brightness turned all the way up, you can estimate 1.5 hours of life. Get a bigger battery and the duration will also increase.

Well I havn't heard of the Turion 64 but it does ring a bell. It maybe a little old but I think the x2 means it 2 processers. To determine the quality look at the speed for a laptop 1.2 GHz or higher is just fine, but anything lower than 1 GHz (usually measured in megahurtz ex 747MHz) unless all you do is word processing and email, and maybe really old games. oh and battery life depends of the battery, now a laptop lasts about 11/2 hours to about 2 hours. How long it will lasts, I havn't heard of processors dying, but you don't want to keep it too long though. It's recommended that you buy a new computer every 2-4 years
