AOL has decided to give away domains for free and you can call the website yourname.com, if it's not already taken. The only catch is that AOL is the actual owner of the domain, not you. I would assume you could find out more on www.aol.com

The answer is no.. and thank God, otherwise every idiot with an idea would be creating a website or capitolizing on misspelling of domains to redirect legitimate business to their website.
For now, if you want a free hosted website you can try sites like Tripod, Angelfire or Geocities. You can also sign up with a redirect site such as www.kickme.to in order to mask your long name
ie. www.geocities.com/farmname/yourname is instead yourname.kickme.to or yourname.irule.com

No. You can get websites like geocities.com/yourname for free, but www.yourname.com names are not free. You have to pay a small fee for them.
