is it a DELL laptop?
Try to hold down the Function key which is "fn" on your keyboard and hit the "Up Arrow" key from your keyboard.

Hopefully you have had it less then one year. If you have then take it back to the place you bought it from and they should send it out for service or help you with it.
If not, then maybe check and see if you've bought an extended warrenty. A laptop is the one item I think everyone should get a service plan on.
If you don't have one of those then think about taking it somewhere to get it fixed. If the laptop isn't to old (Over 3 years) then its worth getting fixed for $60 bucks or so.
If it is older then that or it costs more to fix then buy a new one. Prices on laptops are at an alltime low right now. Hope this helped. Good luck.

Mine old one did that. I was because of the connection between the screen and the keyboard bit. I used to have to rub my fingernail over the connection and that got it bright again. The connection on mine was in the left-hand hinge. But I think thats a sign that your laptop is on its way out. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news. xxx

Backlight issue , get someon eto check re-seat the cables , if that dosent work there is a small board that can be replaced , these are quite cheap....
you do not need a new laptop , unless the age of it make it un-econimical to repair ...

its likek my big screen , you have a lose wire to the screen u can fix it yourself but you need to know what you are doing.
you can pay to get it fixed by a pro. arount 30-40 quid.
or buy a new thats what i would do cause a pro dont always do it right and like well if he does it wrong 30 or 40 pound u wasted
if this helps please let me know.

Needs checked by a qualified shop.. sound like either the screen itself is damaged or possibly just a lead to it is loose/worn.

Sounds like you need a new backlight. Try taking it apart and making sure that all the screws and plugs are tight, if that doesn't help have the backlight replaced.
