Oh wow. Well, there are several software suites out there that will help with deconstructing complex proteins and other molecules as well as simulate or model growth of bacteria.

Computers are great for biology because it is a science that has very large acceptable error, yet is still mathematically based. With a computer you can model huge matrices of variables and come out with probabilities that you would have had a lot of trouble doing by hand or with observations.

Also you can use what is called Fuzzy Logic to categorize spices or anything based on a wide variety of variables.

Biologists don't normally know how much computer scientists could help them with their research.

On the Undergraduate level, however, you probably don't need too much more than Excel. (I suggest Open Office.org, it's free.)
