Rule 10.08 (g): No stolen base shall be scored when a runner advances solely because of the defensive team’s indifference to his advance. Score as a fielder’s choice.

Which means the runner was allowed to steal without the defense trying to throw him out. Just because the catcher does not make a throw does not mean defensive indifference. It could be that no players went to cover second base to receive a throw, or he was not held on by the first baseman. It is up to the official scorer to interpret the play.

Yes, it's another one of those rules that doesn't allow for players to get padded statistics.

To elaborate, I think the catcher can't make any move related to attempting to throw out the baserunner. For example, if the catcher jumps out of his crouch and is ready to throw the ball but doesn't, that would usually mean he realizes there's no way he can get the runner out. But that would be a stolen base for the runner. I think.....

If the catcher doesn't do anything and just throws the ball back to the pitcher, then that would be defensive indifference.

If noone attempts to throw a player out who is attempting to steal a base, the runner does not earned a stolen base.

In the instance you are speaking of, I didn't see it, Veritek must not have thrown down to second to attempt to catch someone stealing.

Essentially, Defensive Indifference means "no freebies" for stolen bases.
