Well TECHNICALLY having a criminal record is not supposed to effect getting a job....but I believe you are living in the real world and realize this isnt always the case.

I think it might depend on what type of job you are looking for, as well as what your misdemeanor charge was...

being that is a misdemeanor - i would think you have pretty good chances of finding someone to employ you.

It would be harder if you had a felony on your record.

Make sure to dress to the 9's for your interview, and be honest and play up your skills.

Good luck! :)

Kako is pretty much correct - you don't have to mention a misdemeanor unless specifically asked during an interview. Most applications only ask if you have a felony conviction.

Note: If you've had your record for an arrest legally sealed and expunged, you could legally say "no" if asked if you have any arrests - except for a Federal job that requires a security clearance.

Most companies don't require you to disclose misdemeanors only felonies. However my company does require you to disclose misdemeanors. When I look at your application I would want to know what it was for, how long ago was this, and what position are you applying for?
I personally would use that as a strike against you and chances are I would not hire you. Unless you can prove to me that you have excellent qualities that would allow me to overlook that incident and take a chance on you. But mostly you are swimming upstream.

The charge is not that serious but you should look into your local Employment Security Commission and see if there is a offender job specialist. Usually you can get a form from the ESC that will give your potential employer tax credits for hiring someone with a prior conviction, lack of job training, lack of work experience etc.

I don't think you have to report misdemeanors, only felonies. But never lie on a job application, it will only haunt you later.
