first you go to the itunes website and download the itunes music player.

then you can download songs from itunes from the music player and they go automatically in a library folder. you can make separate playlists and move copies of the songs from the library into that playlist (for example, a folder for saturday night listening).

you can also put your music cds in the cd player of the computer, and save the music files into the library folder.

There is a cable with your ipod that plugs into the ipod, and the USB port of the computer. When you hook your ipod up, it will automatically download all the songs from the itunes music player folders into the ipod, or update any new songs. A message will say "do not disconnect" after a minute or 2, the message will change to "safe to disconnect." disconnect the cables at that time, and you are all updated on your ipod.

Once you get iTunes, open it & plug the iPod into the computer. When you see the iPod icon in iTunes you can start adding songs. If it doesn't do it automatically you may have to drag songs from your iTunes library to the iPod. If you don't have songs in the iTunes library, just click (in iTunes), file and add files to library.
