Before going on stage, breathe very slowly and very deeply through your nose (not your mouth). This will relax you all over. Then when you're right in front of them, SMILE! You will get that needed confidence by so doing. Don't stay in one place while singing, it will only make you feel tense. Walk around. Look each of your audience in the eye and sing with all sincerity. But most important of all, even before any of those I mentioned, be sure to GO TO YOUR PERFORMANCE PREPARED.

Get a pair of sunglasses and wear them for awhile. You are tricking yourself, but it does work. When you are in front of the crowd, do not look at anyone. Instead focus on a wall in the back, look sometimes to the right, then to the left. Avoid eye contact, but others will think you are looking at them especially from a distance. In your mind, concentrate on WHAT YOU ARE DOING instead of the people in front of you. Think about how much you ENJOY what you are doing, smile, relax, think about keeping your face calm too.

ask your doctor for a beta blocker. This medication, often given to patients with high blood pressure, has side effects of decreasing heart rate and that cold clammy feeling of nervousness. It is taken in smaller doses and is quite effective in decreasing the body's response to nervousness and therefore helps you feel more comfortable.
