If you are using XP or so, when you startup your machine, it will automatically search for new device and will install it from the driver which was already loaded. Or it will ask for the CD or driver software. Otherwise Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager and right click your Machine name and select 'Scan for Hardare Changes'. It will detect the Sound card and install its own or will propmt you to give the driver location. You can use the Driver CD or the Driver files dowloaded. If your Soundcard setup is an Installation (Setup.exe kinda), you dont need to do all these, just put the CD / download setup and double click to run the installation.

If by anychance you disabled the Sound device in Bios, go to Bios before booting up and enable the device. You will it in advanced options in Bios.

If you dont know which soundacrd was it and wanna find it, Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information. It will give you the motherboard model details and hence you can findout from the motherboard mfctr's website what soundcard it is and most site (like Intel) offers drivers too
