There is a black river
It passes by my window
And late at night
All dolled up like Christ
I walk the water
Between the piers

Singing
Oh
River of sorrow
River of time, river
River of sorrow
Don't swallow this time

No need to tell me who it is and all that clever stuff I know all that, all I would like is other peoples thoughts on the words.

I see " a black river " as a death awaiting to happen
(maybe a coma ) as " walk the water between piers " this could be like limbo not dead or alive .
I see the last four lines representing not wanting to die !!!

If this is for a English assignment please don't steal my thoughts

What does 'all dolled up like Christ mean'? As an image it just doesn't work on any level, since Christ never was 'dolled up'. So he dances about ON water (that jesus thing again) and he sings

River of sorrow
River of time
River of sorrow
Dont swallow this time

Why is it a river of sorrow? what is he sad about? The only other image we have to relate to is the one of him being like Jesus so I presume he is identifying with the suffering of Christ? Who knows? That would be my guess. 'Dont swallow this time' is more perplexing, what time is he reffering to? If he means the present then he must be referring to the feeling of suffering/sorrow reffered to already - although in this present time he is infact apparently walking on water (and late at night). So he does not want the river of time to end this present moment of suffering and simulataneous walking on water (in the dark).

In short it's a bit ...nothingy really. Doesn't really seem to say much at all, at least nothing that I can resonate with - just some teenage messianic angst perhaps?

The lyrics do their job well. They convey a sense of melancholy, if not quite despair. The Christ image evokes a strong visual in the mind. It may be a bit on the blasphemous side, but it does a lot of work for the lyrics. It seems like something I'd like to see the rest of the lyrics for, just to see what other imagery the artist uses.

I love them they are very deep...I also write my own lyrics so I'm pretty honest about it...but it is a little dark but yeah I like them.

I'd have to hear the music that goes with it, because without the music, I'd have to say it's just very bad poetry.

Wow. It's pretty. It sounds sad and haunting.

I love it.

I'd like to know who it's by.
