Mazda uses a Check Engine Light to tell you that the car's computer has identified a problem in the engine control system. If it is newer than 1996, it also tells you if there is something wrong with the emissions system (first and foremost).
You could have left the fuel cap loose on one newer than '96, and it will turn on the light.
If you are capable of some repairs, you could have someone like Autozone read your codes, and then address the code from there.
If you haven't the knowledge or tools or experience to do the repairs yourself, you can take it to a reputable shop. Looking for discount repairs may save you money, but they can also cost you in the long run.
Either way, if you go to a shop, you should expect to pay them for their diagnostic time. Many shops have a minimum diagnostic fee ranging rom $35.00 to a minimum of 1 hour shop time.
They are required to tell you the cost of diagnostics up front, so there are no surprises.

probably a check engine light. But i wouldnt take it straight to a dealer. they will give you a laundry list of problems and charge exorbitant fees for parts and labor first try taking it to a Auto Zone or discount auto parts store and having them check the code most times they will tell you what is wrong for free. The dealer will charge 50 -80 bucks you just to do the check.

It may be the check engine light. You need ot take it to a Mazda dealer. It could be something small, or it could be something major. You should not drive it very long after that light comes on. It could do permanent damage to your engine.
