The new aim is absolute bollocks, its the worst bloatware, cpu using program I've ever had, I hate programs that take repeated tries to close. ICQ is out of date, that leaves msn as the best? Also AIM triton stopped working for me and wont go past validating anymore.

Try Gaim. It's free open source, and connects to all the major IM services with no ads. You can have tabbed chat windows, too, so your screen isn't all cluttered up with all the people you're chatting.

I just hate how much RAM the im programs use. Mostly I use AOL…the actual program with the AIM already in it. Or I will use MSN. I never use Yahoo or anything else. But more of my friends are on AIM.

I like Trillian, allows you to hook up to AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ all at the same time through 1 interface. And the basic version is free.
