Definitely not -that's the illusion that the strip gives but as you walk and walk you'll notice it's not close at all, and if you're going anytime soon the heat will be to uncomfortable to walk long distances. If you like traveling up and down the strip and beyond - like to the Palms or the Rio, I would suggest renting a car, the rates are really cheap, you won't use that much gas, valet parking is free everywhere, and you can come and go as you please, there's traffic ofcourse but you're sitting in it anyway on the bus or in a cab. Alamo always has good rates, and for the weekend a 4 door economy car would run 35 bucks total - if you show your round trip ticket you can use your atm debit card and there's no holding amount as opposed to other rental companies that hold an additional 250. We always do that when we go every year and it's such a convenience - with all the driving around we did we didn't use half a tank, so it was better than paying for a cab or a bus everytime we wanted to go somewhere.

If you want to travel cheaply take the bus, or the Strip trolley, just ask the bellman where to go to wait. If you want to travel conveniently and see more things during your trip, rent a car. If you have extra money to blow, take a cab or a limo. Never try to walk down the Strip from downtown. It's a very long walk, very high risk of a pedestrian/drunk driver accident, and there are way too many homeless people, robbers, and purse thieves there.

It'd be one heck of a hike and not one I'd recommend after dark or during the heat of the day. It's 5miles maybe, but you go thru some unsavory areas of the Strip. My personal advice: cab it. It'll run you maybe $10 or so, depending on what end of the strip you want to go to but it's worth it for the safety thing. I'd skip the buses too after dark - all the tourist books and websites say they're not the safest after dark. Some hotels run shuttles between each other - so that's another thing to consider.

I always rent a car. I paid $120 for five days in June.

I second what everybody else said. The walk is too far. But the buses run up and down downtown and the strip. That would be the best option.

It's a long walk, and some areas between the Statosphere and downtown are not very nice, take the bus

Rent a car!!! Everyone says to take a cab or bus. They are wrong! We saw so many people standing around waiting for buses. What a waste of time. We never had problems with parking.

I wouldn't walk, it is about a 20-30 minute cab/limo ride. Usually costing about $40.

Be sure to check out Fremont St. downtown.

It would be a really long walk. The bus is probably your best bet if you don't have a car.

NO, but there is a public bus for $2 each way or taxis everywhere.
