This is a continuing problem. People become apathetic because their input doesn't have any impact on the problem. Why don't people go vote and turn the B*******s out? Because the voting machines don't work and the recounts are rigged. Why don't people use the litter baskets in parks and public places? Because there is so much trash everywhere anyway. No one ever cleans anything up. There is a story about a man walking along a beach, and coming upon a boy busily picking up doomed starfish stranded by the outgoing tide, and throwing them back out to sea. The man told the boy he was wasting his time, there were thousands of starfish going to die, and saving the few just wasn't going to make any difference. The boy silently picked up another starfish and threw it out to sea, then said, "It made a difference to THAT one."
My motto: I can't do everything, but I can do something.

I think apathy is a modern 'deadly sin'. I reckon Sir Bob Geldof and Gandhi would agree with me (not that I put myself up with those two!)

If you care, that makes you a participant in improving the world. If you participate, you have responsibility. Nobody wants responsibility, so nobody participates, so nobody bothers caring, so nothing ever gets better. Forgive the absolutes (it's not "nobody" though it often feels that way), but in the end- what a lovely system.

its not a question of can anyone be bothered just that there is not enough people who can be bothered. i can but i know loads of people who cant what do you do?
