hip hop is the culture rap is jus one of the elements of hip hop. to say that rap is hip hop is like slapping one piece down and saying the puzzle is done. i jus doesn't work like that. cuz part of hip hop culture is the clothes that ppl wear, another part is the b-boy/ girls ya kno the break dancers, then you have the mc's, then theres the street teams , and then theres the graffiti artist. all of that makes up hip hop its not jus one thing

I am able to separate the culture from the music. (In other words, I don't wear baggy pants :) Rap is poetry, stories, social statement, experience, or observation in a hard core rhythm line. Hip-Hop is rap and music combined. There is a difference. Hip-hop can be a little more mainstream...while most rap is usually out of the mainstream...but in the mainstream consciousness. They achieved this through the music...which is the whole point to it. (oh, my age..."timeless").

Rap can be roughly defined as words spoken rhythmically whereas many people see the term "Hip-Hop" as a culture or a way of life that started from the roots of activities such as Graffiti, Break-dancing and block-parties in NYC.

well, hip-hop is like that street poetry, like the way 2pac did it, or at least was, but now everyone has to be a pimp or have bi tches, and then, rap, on the other hand, is that hardcore underground sh it, like ice cube, so there is a difference but only a slight difference...

16....idk, rap is spoken word and hip-hop is upbeat music. hip-hop can have singing or rapping in it and rap can have a hip-hop beat or slow beat. so i guess songs can fall in both categorys. but hip-hop does not equal rap.
