He committed liberal heresy by supporting the Iraq war and his two faced constituents turned on him.

Because Joe Lieberman who has actually been to Iraq supported the war in Iraq. He only lost the democrat primary by 126,000 votes. That's not too shabby. Actually Joe now has a better chance of winning in November in CT since the majority of voters are registered independent.

Um, I don't suppose anybody here really paid attention to what Joe Lieberman's religion is?

So let me tell you, Othodox Jewish. Now look, I do not have any probems with the Jewish religion at all, and would vote for one. But I look at Orthodox Jew the same way as a Iook at born again Christian, as in Bush. I don't vote for them.

Yeah, I think the Iraq stance hurt him. Er, but there might be a few other small things going on in the Middle East that did not help him either. I would have voted him out also.

Because he supports the war. He has voted on the Democratic side of issues more than 90% of the time. He is in the top 20% of Democratic Senators for following the party line. And the liberal wing of the Democratic party thinks that his support of Bush on the war is enough to vote him out. He will probably win as an independent, Lamont isn't a very effective politician, but I think the Dems are doing better in Georgia than in Connecticut. Hank Johnson is going to be more of a problem for the Republicans than Lamont ever will be.

Joe Lieberman claimed to be a Democrat, but often (not just the war) supported Republican ideas and bills. Finally, the good liberal Democrats in Connecticut got fed up with his backstabbing the people who nominated him in the first place.

1. Because he's Jewish
2. Connecticut is crawlling with Liberals.
3. War is all Lamont ran on, and nothing else.
4. Voters love millionaires (Lamont is one)
5. Conn. voters wanted to see Jesse Jackson's mug
hanging over the winner, Lamont.
6. They prefer a left, left, left winger over a gentleman.
7. Conn. voters are anti-semetic.
8. Liebermann is a good man who wants Unity in our
government again, but apparently Connecticut Democrats
don't care about things like that anymore.
They don't know it, but whoever runs against Lamont
on the Republican ticket will win the national election.

Most people think he lost the primary because he supported the war in Iraq, and that gave a lot of Democrats the impression that he was a "yes man" for President Bush.

He broke ranks with the official party line and had to be punished. The far left of his party has effectively gained control in Connecticut and made him pay for that.

Because he has his own mind. He voted with democrats 90% of the time, yet wasn't far left enough so the party worked furiously to oust him.
