It is. Crosswalks are set up for pedestrian traffic. hence getting off your bike. Technically and by law a bicyclist is classified as a pedestrian because the "vehicle" you're using is muscle powered and not by an electric or internal combustion engine.

I don't remember if it's actually against the law to walk your bike across a crosswalk, but it's a good idea to walk it anyway because any bicycle going slow (as you would across a crosswalk) is far more likely to tip over with its rider. You probably wouldn't want to land on a car hood doing that, would you?

yep.

crosswalk = walk across

not ride across.

It's so drivers have a better sense of what you are doing. You should not be riding your bike on the sidewalk in the first place, but if you do, you must (by the law) dismount and walk. This is to keep you safe.

Of course, if you are riding your bike in the road, you just ride your bike with the traffic when the light turns green.

It's agaisnt the Law in Seattle, but oddly you can ride your bike along the sidewalk leagally then jump into the intersection without signalling to avoid riding in the crosswalk and it's perfectly legal.

because a crosswalk is for pedestrians... of course the sidewalk is too ...if cops wanted to be hardcore, one could actually be fined for rideing bikes on the sidewalk too.. These laws are for the protection of the pedestrian because you always have at least one inconsiderate moran who weaves in and out of pedestrians knocking them over or sideswiping them... Designated riding areas for bicyclist is the road and bike path.

Yes, it is illegal to ride a bicycle in a crosswalk. Crosswalks are for pedestrians only. If you are mounted on your bicycle, you are a vehicle operator, not a pedestrian.
