Add a cup of vinegar to your wash load takes away all kinds of smells, Urine, smoke, musty.
Febreeze and all those others just cover up the smells, vinegar actually just takes it out.

Pour boiling water over the cloths, in a container. Squash them up and down with a potato masher or similar. The boiling water kills the smelly bacteria.
Drain and when cool enough to handle, hang out to dry in full sun.

Same thing happened to me with sponges and when your done using it if you'll wring it out and put it in the microwave for as little as 5 seconds the heat will kill all the bacteria and then lay/hang it out to dry and next time it will still be fresh.

Use vinegar in the wash cycle, it gets rid of the smell and doesn't leave a chemical residue.

Do you hang them on something when you're through using them so they can dry properly. My dish cloths did the same thing and now I hang them over my oven door handle and they dry out quickly and I don't have that problem.

Try running them through the washer with your clothes. If you use Handi Wipes, or something like them, they shouldn't fall apart in the washer. My wife washes ours all the time and they come out fine.
