In the town where I live a 13 year girl was raped when she went to this privately owned photo shop that takes pictures for people to post on their myspace if they dont have a digital camera. Now people are talking about persuing a boycott or something against myspace to have it shut down for good. I dont think that it should because only people like under 16 are stupid enough to meet with people they dont know and just met on myspace. Then most of the time they are kiddnapped or raped or somthing like that. I'm in my 20's and I never accept people as friends that I dont know and I have met up with a ton of old friends from HS & college that I havent seen in a couple of years.
So I just think that parents need to take responsibilties for what their children do online and the results of their childrens actions. Myspace should not be blamed for what stupid teenagers do.
What was the first thing you learned as a child? "Never talk to strangers!!"

wtf.

it's not myspace's fault that kids are stupid.

it's the parents.

I'm 19 and I use myspace how it's supposed to be used. For networking. Just a way to connect with friends, and meet some new people, but not to be used as a dating service.
I do feel that anyone under 16 shouldnt be allowed though.

You made a good point. I think from now on nobody under the age of 18 should be allowed to have a myspace account. Myspace needs to take responsibility for the safety of younger teens on the site.

YES!!! I totally agree with you. MySpace is a horrible website tha needs to be shut down. So many things have happend with kids getting hurt, etc. that it is just not safe anymore. I think that there are other ways to communicate with people you KNOW on the Internet. Something really should be done.

People are going to abuse technology, no matter what medium. Shutting down myspace isn't going to help because a similar operation will take its place as soon as it is gone.

In a society where computers and information sharing are a part of our everyday lives, we have to be cautious. It's a personal responsibilty to ourselves to be aware when we are putting ourself in harms way and who we come into contact with.

I think it would be unfair to shut down MySpace simply because some stupid teenager was dumb enough to meet up with someone she or he met over the internet. What they should do is outlaw participation of any underaged party on MySpace.

I agree with you. Even though what allegedly happened (allegedly, because you didn't say someone was convicted of it) is horrible, it is no place for younger kids, and parents should have full involvement if they do use it.

There is actually an abuse category on MySpace for underage users, and people who lie about their age. I encourage using it.

I really don't care if Myspace is shutdown, but it would be great if 14 or younger were kicked out of myspace.

I definately think it should be shut down. It is running and ruining peoples lives. Sure "kids should be tought, and there should be monitors put in place". But kids will be kids, pervs will be pervs, and **** is still gonna happen. One way to avoid it all together is hmm..lets see..shut the damn thing down!!

I don't think that my space should be shut down. I think that people should monitor what their kids are doing on line and I think that it is a PARENTS responsibility to raise their kids right.

Also, all the pervs who try to pick up children should be locked up.

No I don't think it should be shut down. People should know not to meet people you don't know in person. I don't understand why people do it. I don't think we should all be punished for there dumb mistakes.
