cats pupils are vertical, but some goats have vertical ones that are realllllly creepy.... why are they horizontal anyway?

Actually, ALL goats have horizontal pupils. Such weirdly-shaped pupils help the goat see nearly 300 degrees around when its head is down. Kind of handy when a creature is a prey animal.
Have you ever noticed that when you turn your head sideways or roll over when laying down, that you have problems focusing without turning your whole head? Goats don't have to do that. The whole eye rotates to keep that funny-looking pupil parallel with the ground. If you have a pet goat, you can try it-tip him up on his butt, then roll him over and watch those eyes.
Goat eyes can look really evil if they are light-colored, 'cause it makes the pupil more noticeable. The irises of a goat come in many colors, so some do look downright strange: brown, blue, yellow, and any mix of these.
BTW-there are other related creatures with the same kind of eyes, but the iris is often so dark that you don't notice. Deer (yes, even cute lil Bambi), cows, sheep, camels, horses, zebras and some types of kangaroos!

Most goats have vertical pupils, and why? Cuz thats the way God made 'em. As for the few that have circular (not horizontal) pupils, it is just kind of like a genetic flaw that doesnt hurt them at all.
