Not that I'm suicidal or anything. The question is, do you own your soul? if you take away someone else's life. it's murder, if it's yours, is it okay? do I really own myself?

According to religion, you're God's property. If we were talking LEGALLY, I would say, yes, you are your own property. That is, if you are over the age of 18. Until then, you're your parents property. :-) Hope it makes a little sense.

I believe in quality of life.
In a sense your soul is yours, but it also belongs to those you love, because to love somebody is to give them a piece of your soul -- so whether it is a close friend, a husband or wife, or children, they also are owners of your soul, just like you are owners of their soul. Therefore if you kill yourself you are stealing back from them the part of your soul that you gave to them.
On the other hand, with modern medical technology, etc. people often live in vegetative states for long periods of time. This person should have the right to decide (obviously before whatever tragedy caused them to live in such a state) at what point they are no longer living. If the person has not yet made this decision, than it is the family members decision. In this case, assisted suicide (which it technically is) is okay.

I don't feel that it is okay. It hurts the people around you. My cousin committed suicide at only 16 years old 4 years ago and people in my family still grieve for her. I don't think that it is right because you not only hurt yourself for that short period of time but you hurt others a lot longer in the process.

The dead and how they died mean nothing to the dead.

It is the living that suffer when you die. If it is of natural or unexpected cause, we mourn the dead and treasure their memory. When a person commits suicide, those they leave behind feel betrayed.

Suicide is a form of cowardice. You will die anyway eventually so suck it up and deal with your problems here. Those that love you will respect that, but have no regard for you if you check out without trying.

If you take your own life, technically you are murdering yourself. Since you cannot be charged, however, there is no law against suicide.

Suicide is never ok. Only God has the right to say when it's someone's time to go.

that's a good question. from the time we're born, we're taught that we "belong" to our community, to our parents, to society, to our religious path. we're handed a sort of implied debt which we must fulfill until we die. people expect us to be at least partially responsible for thier happiness, and to contribute meaningfully to the relationships around us. in this sense, no, you don't own yourself. you're a part of a collective.

i reject this. i believe that only through the selfish act of self-determination can we achieve anything meaningful. society is the cave in which primitives squat, waiting for fire to drop from the heavens. i say we leave that cave, and make our own fire. we may be consumed, but will have existed.

Never ok. It's the easy way out for the weak. A way to not have to confront their demons and overcome them, which is more, a lot more, satisfying.
Beside, they never think of those who are left behind, and who they would be scared for life due to their actions.

Suicide is absolutely OK. Yes, your life is your responsibility and that includes any "soul" you may have.

Suicide hurts too many people around you. My mom's been trying to kill herself on and off for a few years now, my boyfriend has depression problems, it's one of the worst things I've experienced. I felt helpless and like I failed these people. You just worry and cry until they come to their senses. I also think a lot of people kill themselves for stupid reasons. Did you hear about that kid who killed himself because someone stole his iPod? Imagine how many people he hurt, over an iPod.
