PC. PC offers many things no console on the market can (360 is getting close) like the ability to modify games (Morrowind, Oblivion anyone?) and some great games that are PC exclusive (If you never played Gothic or Gothic II you don't know what you're missing). Definitely PC.
To refute, PCs are not catching up to consoles, but vice versa. The graphics cards in the 360 and PS3 are top of the line computer hardware, processors are not quite top of the line. Of course, a completely upgraded computer system will cost you in th $8K to $15K range, so Consoles are cheaper for getting good performance. But you can get a PC capable of performing like an X-Box 360 for about $2500. The choice is a tough one, because consloes are indeed catching up to the PCs in terms of online availability and other miscellaneous areas. but for performance flexibility, computers are definitely still lightyears ahead of the console market, though the gap is closing as consoles become more like mini PCs.

If your intentions are video gaming:
Console systems are just as powerful if not more than computers; also, the games are usually better in the sense that the coding and engineering of the game is created with one set standard in mind; the standard of the console. When playing online on a 360, for example, the issues with latency (lag) because of framerate degeneration are usually less since the system specs are know, the limits standard, and the programmers would not design something "with the future in mind."
Computers on the other hand, the games have to be created with the lowest and highest possible averages in mind, so that the game has future-appeal (and looks good on great systems) but people with cheaper computers can still play the game.
Now, if you do not only have video games in mind - and do not currently own a computer; getting a computer would be one of the first steps you should do. While you can continue to live in a world without internet connection, it becomes blatantly obvious that the internet is a great tool for humanity: literally anything you ever need to know is there, at the tip of your fingers, just waiting for you to type it into a search engine.
Also, computers have a lot of business applications which can be a great aid for day-to-day life. Excel, Word, and a printer will make you far exceed the average non-computerized budget and letters you may need to write (although you may not have to, once in a while you will, and it'll be nice to have.)
So, it's really what you need it for. I would get PC first as it's more functuional for life than video games, and it may raise your ability to make money in the future (by understanding how to use it) - while you may never see an advertisement for a job that says "basic understanding of an xbox and xbox live necessary" (but will see "basic computer and office knowledge necessary" evrey day)

its depandant on price over capability. xbox 360 can pack a punch for the price and it doesnt take much room, but pc's are catching up with gaming technology, graphic cards now days are brilliant

that depends on your budget. PC games require high-end graphics cards and good monitors
