My friend is really worried, she said she was cleaning the pigs cage and she found a tooth, it was a back tooth, not a front, i found out that ginea pigs teeth can fall out if they chew on the cage bars alot. So i told my friend this, and she said her pig does chew on the bars alot. But after thinking a while, how could the back tooth fall out if when isnt it the front that are usually chewing on things? Could her ginea pig be sick? She said the same thing happened to another ginea pig she had and it died soon afterwards. Thanks for any help.

That happened to my guinea pig a few times, but she is fine. It was probably just a coincidence. Just feed soft foods for a while untill the tooth grows back.

You just have to be careful with guinea pigs and teeth. Their mouths are very small and very uniquely made. I'd take it to the vet. If the tooth didn't come out clean, it could have left some jagged part to poke into the pigs mouth. this will make it swell up and make it too painful for the pig to eat or drink. You should always watch a guinea's teeth to make sure 1) they arnt growing too long and 2) that they are growing straight. I had a guinea pig a long time ago whose teeth grew too long, i took her to the vet when i noticed she wasn't eating and they scheduled her for emergency dental surgery but she passed away waiting for the surgery date. Keep an eye on your friends pig and make sure its still eating and drinking!

It probably is a vitamin deficiency. I would take it to the vet as the guinea pig may have scurvy from lack of vitamin C. Make sure the guinea pigs gums aren't swollen or bleeding.
