It depends on what type of encyclopedia you are looking for. i mean brittanica has to be bought unless you support piracy.... wikipedia is free. brittanica can be used offline but wikipedia is an online encyclopedia. So therefore it depends on you connection. brittanica is an feature rich multimedia enclyclopedia..wikipedia though has its share of videos and audio files, it isnt as multimedia frenzy as an brittanica is. Ofcourse wikipedia is constantly upgraded and you can get your latest news there, on the other hand you have to buy a new version of brittanica.Ofcourse you have to keep a thing in mind is that brittanica is an respected source and there have been reports of questionable and mistaken information being printed in wikipedia.
my choice is wikipedia as i have an 24-7 online computer and ofcourse its free.

Why choose? Both have features uniquely valuable to individual users and their queries.
Brittanica, (and many others) offer well researched and carefully cited information on lots of subjects. With such a reference work, you can be pretty sure that the information is accurate.
Wikipedia offers data on a LOT of subjects that Brittanica would never even consider publishing. Where else can you get such a wealth of information on South Park episodes and characters? Where else can I look up year to year, detailed information of changes made to Ford Crown Victoria Police Cruisers?
I don't have to make a choice and don't see the need to rate one better than the other. I't like asking which is better? A Formula One open wheel racer, or a Hummer? Neither is better than the other in it's own special application.
