my dad is really good at that. he can seriously look at a Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai person (like all lined up) and know where each is from. it's crazy.

i honestly don't know what to tell you or how to learn how to do that. here are a few sights. from my experience, knowing the history and the general facial structure, stature, coloring, etc of the different nations in the world are helpful. just some general info like that can help you pick out ethnicy, especially if they are mixed.

for example, i'm english, irish, Lebanese and Ukrainian. most people see a small face as European, my olive skin as Middle Eastern and my complexion and facial structure as Ukrainian (or Russian) ...

It's very difficult to tell people apart when it comes to nationalities - the best most people can do is contentinental comparisons, like european versus african versus asian.

Just do a google image search for various nationalities, like Korean and Chinese, and you'll see what I mean. Unless you grew up there, you'd have a hard time telling. Just like I can pick out a girl from the south from 100 yards, but if you asked someone who grew up in Russia what the differences are between her and someone from Massachussets, they'd have a hard time with it.

you can't just look at someone and know where they are from. Within every group there are hundreds of different looks, from eye color to hair color to nose shape, body size, etc.

if you want to know where people are from you are going to have to ask. you need to talk to to them. by talking you will hear accents. you will hear certain dialects, you can use clothing but in today's mass produced globalization it doesn't work that well.

so you wont get it from a book, or a magazine. you have to ask.

Determining a person's nationality based solely on their looks is impossible. I guarantee you can't tell mine simply by looking at me.

Don't just use your eyes, use your ears. A person's accent can tell you a lot about where they've been.
