I have a baby who's under 2. I was wondering how much I should pay an adult baby sitter? Do I pay more if the child is older? Do I pay a little extra for mileage?

for an average rate i would call a couple of daycare centers and see what they are charging..... Most daycares catergorize the fee by age group... infants, diapered toddlers, potty trained toddlers, preschool age then school age rates...these catagories are due to the amount of care involved... .. now since you are having the care provider come to your home i would include a little extra for mileage especially with these gas prices... If they are good you wanta keep them happy... nothing is too expensive when it comes to the good care of your children.... good luck

It depends on the area you live in. Nobody pays $2 an hour for a babysitter around here. We have paid as much as $15/hour, but we live in the SF Bay Area.

An adult should be more responsible with a baby than a teenager. But it depends on your teenager.

Generally, you can pay less as the kids age (but if your kids are little hellions, expect to pay more).

Just get some referrals from friends/relatives/coworkers.

i think you pay less if the child is still a baby, coz the baby sitter does nothing much besides use ur telephone, watch tv and eat ur food and who knows maybe even try on your cloths :) whos gonna tell... where as if ur child is older the baby sitter is more involved in watching the child and he or she will tell if the sitter is wearing mommys new dress:) so then you pay a little more.

my sister works as a babysitter and makes $2-$3 per kid of all ranges and that is in rural, IL. If the babysitter commutes then and extra $3-$5 per day would be nice. For 10 hours of baby sitting you should spend about $25 per kid.

I would say at least 5 bucks depending on experience. This is the absolute last place to scrimp.

Make sure you've checked up on the person thoroughly. If the child is older it could be less....as older kids can self cater a bit.

Gas is expensive and if they have a ways to go to your home then yes you should compensate for that.

When my son was 2 and in daycare I paid $2.50/hr. $5-6!!!! That's crazy. There is a reason I'm stay at home mom now. I'd have to work a full time job to pay a babysitter. Min. wage in my state is $5.15/hr. so I'd be charged more than I earn

I would say anywhere from 1.50-2.00 and hour. Just cause if you went to a daycare they pay by day. Like here in oklahoma its 17 for an infant and then it goes down by the age. Like you pay less when they are older cause there is less you have to do for that child.
