I am about to start school for my EMT-B cert. Would I be able to get on with a department once I have that? Or should I go for my Firefighter I cert and then test with departments? I know it depends on each FD's reqs. But, I was wondering which avenue would be the most fruitful. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Dan you ask a tuff question. Since most FDs in the country are going to or already require their FFs to be at least EMSs, I think it would be a very big plus to have your EMT first.

I have been involved with my hiring process for the last five years and I know we put people to the head of the list when they already have EMT training. Of course, even better if you have EMT-I or P.

E-Mail me if you want to know more.
