Hello. I'm 18 and i've been dating my boyfriend since October of last year. I've known him since I was 11, since he was a family friend. We've been through so much, like the typical "let's get married right NOW, I love you so much" at the beginning, to "I'm not ready, I want to be financially set, which may be 10 years" when we both were poor and unemployed. and that really bad phase he had where he treated me like crap ALL the time (I gave him a month to straighten up, it worked!). He's going to the Marines, and he tells me now when he gets back, we ARE going to get married. I feel ready. I love him with all my heart, but I'm worried about what my family will think. I am in college, and that comes first, but I also want a family with him, too. (Hopefully not children right away!) I want to be an Elementary School Teacher. Am I being too naive, or are we really ready? I just want some opinions. Thank you.

We the surfers of cyber world meet with so many people every day. Surfing the net is the best pastime one can ever develop, as internet has the most knowledge, a surfer will never have to wait for a answer. The vast knowledge of cyber world is nothing as compared to the cyber society that it gives. Internet is a community but so vast that we need a place to make conversation easy. What more can be better than a chat room for this purpose, well a chat room and a message board along with a forum is the best combination really. I was actually looking for a place where we can find all these things with a profile and photo brouse option. Finally I got this site, this place is a very nice community where we can share every thing online. And also about the leader board, I must tell it is great. The thought of the leader board is unique, as not to many people has thought about this thing. And the method of getting the leader is very different and one must check out this site once. The cyber culture is growing, and it is about time that we find our club and that to a very different club, which is not a part of any big website house like the yahoo and google. This site am talking about has every thing that a cyber surfer ever wants. This is the website address, http://www.friendscyberclub.com/ Features of this site is: 1) chatting 2) view profiles and photos 3) upload your photos and make a cool profile. 4) your message board 5) forum 6) See your name on the leader board. There are also many more features available in the site, free to join.

You sound alot like myself. My husband is in the army, we got married right after my 20th birthday. Fortunately I got to finish my bachelors while he was overseas and now that were stationed in Germany I'm trying to get my masters in education so I can become a teacher at the DODS schools.
We eloped and waited 6 months to tell our families because we were afraid they would judge us for our age, when we did my parents seemed a little upset, but overall they were happy I was happy. Being that young I worried alot about what others would think, but we are leading a very happy normal life. I know in the military it seems like sometimes marriage is the only way to stay together when hes moving around. We were married two years and now are having our first baby soon.
There are alot of things about getting married young that you dont have time to find out on your own, but if you are both willing to go to counseling I will promise you it will make the ride much more smooth. The military provides many services for young couples if you are willing to take them.
I think asking other people could either mean you are unsure yourself, or you have already made up your mind and just want support. If you know, you know. There are no questions. Knowing who you want to spend the rest of your life with should be the easiest decision in the world if its the right person.
Good luck with everything, and take chances! If I listened to everyone else (even my friends) I might never have the wonderful life I have now!

I think you should wait til he comes back from the marines, and has saved up some money for this family you are planning to have. Completing college is important, so if you can get a few more years in, it would be better. Hold off on the wedding til you are sure he is there for you, and he really has changed. Then, when you both are ready, let your parents know, get their blessings, and get married!
My sister got married at 19, and she only did 2 years of college by that time, and now she's trying to finish it and its hard cause she's gotta do all the chores at home and do papers and study. So think long and hard about it!
And good luck!

There's no set time at which to say you're ready or not. The treating you like crap phase, though - that's worrisome. I do hope he's gotten help for whatever caused that!
Ask yourself why you're worried about what your family will think - is it just because of your age or are there other factors?
Is he dictating to you that you'll get married or are you actually discussing this? Get engaged. Spend the time getting to know one another in other kinds of stress - preparing for a wedding and entering the military are two huge steps for anyone.
My husband asked me to marry him when he was 26 and I was 19. We married a year later and have been married now for almost 17 years, very happily.

I really think you are too young to get married. Marriage comes with alot of responsibilities not including the children. Focus on your education and make the best of your self before you settle down. Don't rush into marriage. Have you ever heard that saying It is cheaper to keep her or him it is true. Plus your boyfriend is getting ready to go into the military. If you think about it he is doing what he has to do to better himself and you should do the same. If it meant to be it will happen. Best of luck in your educational endeavors

I got married when I was 18 and thought I was ready. I now regret making that decison so young. You miss out on so much when you get married so young. My advice to you is to wait and experience all the things normal young women your age are experiencing before you commit yourself.

okay i didn't read any of your stuff, except that you are 18... YES you are too young... i know you think you aren't, and I'm assuming all the stuff you wrote is trying to convince us of that, but the fact is you are.... I'm telling you that the odds of a marriage at that age working out are horrible!!!
there is so much in life that you haven't experienced, and should experience on your own.... like having your own place for one.... trust me, 10 years down the road you will be wondering what that would have been like..... so forget about convincing yourself and arguing with everyone, and be a young person for a while first....

well for me,18 is not too young to get married as long as you know what are your responsiblities and considering things in a married life.
But,think about it.Everything can change especiallly that he'll gone away to work. She may meet someone, likewise, you too.
Remember you had a dream and that must the first thing you prioritise before anything else.Marriage can wait...and if he loves you,he must understand you.

if you are asking this i think you already know the answer. if he really loves you he can wait until you are BOTH ready. you are obviously mature for 18 dont do anything you may regret.waiting a few years wont hurt anything but it can definately help
