For the umpteenth time:

Judaism is a religion mainly practiced by a race of people commonly called the Jews.

The Jews are a Semitic race called Hebrews or Israelites. They have distinct genetic markers that separate them from other races.

You can convert to Judaism and become a religious Jew but you cannot become an ethnic Jew. Similarly, an ethnic Jew remains a member of the Hebrew race even if they fore swear the Jewish religion.

That statement does make alot of sense. It is a religion but it really seems perceived as more of a race, the Jewish seem more seperated by society than most other religions. As I sit here and think I think of Buddhists and Hindu's that I know and they don't seem, excuse the term, but as segregated. I don't know if thats the correct word I am looking for. To answer the question it is a religion not a race.

Yes.

Wow what a bunch of ignorant misinformation on this question, especially with those with cowboy hats on their avitars.

The "real answer" is that Judaism,or Jeweish is a religion, not a nationality. It is NOT a seperate racial stock, although growing up I can remember a few older people insinuating that it was.

There is a conundrum in Judaism. Its both. The weird thing is that you can become Jewish by subscribing to the religion. If born Jewish you are always Jewish but can change religions. I majored in this in college. Interesting...

Good question.

Absolutely! I asked a similar question and I became aware that anyone can convert to Judaism and thereby become a Jew.

That's correct. However, Judaism is primarily practiced by people of Semitic ethnicity. The Semitic ethnicity includes many other groups (Arabs, for example), as well.
