I sadly shake my head when I read answers like the one Preacher and Mikeae gave. It is misguided and hateful information that gives the public a very misconstrued image of Paganism and witchcraft.
Witchcraft is a term given to Wiccans and other Pagans who practice ritual and spellwork. It is neither evil or of the christian devil, something that we do not believe in. We worship the Goddess and the God, who are present in everything around us. Some of us do spellwork, some don't. If you want more information, I suggest reading Wicca and Living Wicca by Scott Cunningham. He is a very good writer and explains our beliefs in an easy to understand way. Good luck on you journey, I applaud you for seeking knowledge while standing firm in your own beliefs. Not too many Christians are willing to even take the time to understand other religions. Thank you.

Given one of the answers here, let me get rid of one false idea about Wicca and witchcraft. They do not, repeat, DO NOT worship Satan. Why?
In order to worship something you must believe that it exists. Witches and pagans in general do not believe there is a Satan so how can they worship this entity? No. The fact is, only people who were once Christian can be Satan worshipers because how can you perform a Black Mass without first knowing what a White Mass is?
Wiccans are very spiritual people who have a healthy connection to the earth. They are polytheistic and recognize and revere the gods and goddess of all pantheons. Thus, they often refer to the god as, "He who is known by many names," and the goddess as, "She who is known by many names."
Yes. Among the many, many things that they do, they also cast spells. But always with the "no harm" caveat. Unlike most who walk this planet, they know that what they do, what they put out there, will come back to them. So they always take care.

There are many types of Wise, or witchcraft, as you call it. I know of quite a few ie; Kitchen, Ritual, Sex, Candle, Cauldren, etc... There is Gardenian, and host of other Crafters that have spiritual beliefs that they have encorporated into a " Coven " setting. I am however, a solotary practitioner of the art o Wise Craft. If you think about cooking meals for your family, you are thinking about the food, how it will taste, the ingredients, if they will enjoy ???? These are the same principles that are related to casting. A spell, is a thing sent to ask for a specific thing to happen. So long as you do not interfere in anothers will to choose no harm done. When this rule is broken, even in love spells( YES!! LOVE SPELLS!), they are considered negative . So.... When you make meals for your family, this is what the origins of the art of wise craft come. The purpose : To secure the home from negativity, family from illease, and good health.
Ever aware the rule of three: All you cast, comes back times three. Make no decisions for anothers plight, this is not your will, and this you have not right."
As for " worship". To Each their own, I am lover of Earth Gaiea. Athena: The Goddess of War, but do not " worship them. I acknowledge them as strong women, and that is all.

I suggest going to http://www.druidry.org/
It is the website for a place called the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. Its along the same lines as wicca or withccraft. Pagans and Wiccas are kind of kissing cousings. It might help answer a lot of questions that you have.
Yes, we do cast spells. We use herbs, crystals, do energy work. all sorts of things. as far as worship.... there are a number of different gods/goddesses that you can worship. Some still worship god. Others the goddess (mother earth for the sake of argument) Some worship both and some believe in a more "native american" view where they worship a number of gods and goddesses.
Many moons ago, when somebody asked me what paganism was like i said "basically take a tree huggin hippie and a native american and mush them together and toss them back in king arthurs time and you've got the basic idea of what a pagan is." When i told it to a friend, she laughed and said that is possibly the simplest yet best answer she had ever heard to describe what we are.
hope that helps :)

Witches, or wiccans primarily worship the Goddess. They do not worship the devil. Other entities are used in casting spells and such. Yes they cast spells. White magic. Its done through the use of energies. These spells are not to be used to harm others, or to go against someones free will. Also, everything comes back three fold good or bad. And you get good or bad karma from it also.
So obviously I wasnt as eloquent as I should have been, but if you are really intrigued there are so many good resources available out there.

being wiccan and being a witch are two different things. A witch may or may not have a diety or a religion that they use. Witches mainly cast spells and use magic to either hurt or help themselves or others.
Witches come from all walks of life. There are christian witches: they use god, jesus, mary, and saints to help with their magic. There are wiccan wicthes: they use the god and goddess to help. There are witches that practice hexes, curses, and dark magic.
Witches vary depending on the practices. The main thing to understand is a witch practices witchcraft. Witchcraft is basically the casting spells. Hope this helps!

There are many different types of witchcraft, but one rule stays the same;If harm none, do what ye will.We worship God, but in a different way.I am a Dianic witch, we believe in the masculine and feminine sides of God.I am not sure if other types share this belief for i am 3 months in this religion. We do cast spells, but we also remember karma when we cast them.We also use"potions" in witchcraft as well.If you would like to look up some more religions, I suggest you look them up on BellaOnline. Thats how I got introduced to Wicca.

A modern day "witch" really focuses on nature and the Wicca way of worship. You can really toss the old images of them bent over a cauldron cooking up children. Witch craft is a very misunderstood practice, many of the first witches in American were women that just understood the healing power of herbs. They were brought up to worship mother nature and were well educated (able to read) which just didn't sit well with a lot of the men in Salem.

Witchcraft(Black Magic) will attract to you a very bad Karma the next life. Witchcraft is earnest punished than suicide. It is against the Holy Spirit.
Magic(that can be White or Black, depending on what purpose you have, what instruments you use and how you make the prayer) is the manipulation of energies in nature.
Black Magic: Voodoo, Witchcraft, curses, Sorcery,....
White Magic: Shamanism, Teurgy, ...
White Magic uses: Normal cross, sanctified instruments, candle put in a normal position when lit, praying to Holy Spirit or Masters of Medicine, normal pentagram, etc.
Black Magic uses: all of the above but INVERTED.
Inverted Pentagram:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2b/Inverted_Pentagram_circumscribed.svg/2000px-Inverted_Pentagram_circumscribed.svg.png
Inverted cross: http://i1.cpcache.com/product_zoom/264652497/inverted_cross_dog_tshirt.jpg?height=250&width=250&padToSquare=true
Inverted candle:

Do not try something even if someone tells you it's white magic what he wants to teach you, because he might use black magic and trick you, it's risky. I am in an esoteric school and gained some experience that is why I know now what is good or bad.

To disagree with my fellow Pagans, there's a number of different types of witches out there, not just the Wiccan or Wiccan-like varieties. Typically, modern references to witchcraft are referring to the Wiccan variety, though it can also be used to reference Afro-Carribean religions (such as Voudoun, though they normally don't self-identify as such), non-religious witches, Christian witches (as was mentioned above)... and yes, even a number of Satanic witches. It's an "umbrella term" used by a number of diverse groups; without getting more details about which particular type a specific witch is, it's unwise to assume anything about their beliefs. Pretty much the only constant among the groups is a belief in (and typically use of) magic.
